SummerSlam 2026 Night 2: Hometown Glory, Shock Returns, and Major Title Shifts

Night 2 of WWE SummerSlam 2026 delivered an unforgettable evening of professional wrestling from U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. From dramatic, unannounced returns to emotional hometown victories, the final night of the event shook up the WWE landscape and closed out the weekend with a bang.

 

Match Results & Highlights

 

Kevin Owens Shocks the World

What started as a scheduled bout between Finn Bálor and Sami Zayn quickly escalated into pure chaos. Before the bell could ring, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis came out and added Gunther to the mix to make it a Triple Threat match. Aldis did not stop there, officially adding a returning Kevin Owens to make it a Fatal Four-Way match for the #1 Contendership to the WWE Championship. Owens immediately unleashed a brutal attack on both Bálor and Gunther while Zayn watched in shock. In the closing moments of the match, Owens fired back during an exchange with Zayn, hitting him with a Stunner to score the shocking pinfall victory and secure his spot as the #1 Contender.

 

A New United States Champion

Trick Williams, accompanied by Lil Yachty, put his United States Championship on the line against Baron Corbin. The action quickly found its way to ringside early on as Williams took the fight directly to Corbin. Williams even pulled out a table, setting it up alongside Yachty. However, the momentum violently shifted when Trick chased Corbin around the ring and ran right into a devastating Deep Six on the outside. Corbin then rolled the match back into the ring and pummeled the champion to capture the United States Title.

 

Chelsea Green Climbs to the Top

The Interim WWE Women’s Championship was decided in a highly physical Ladder Match featuring Chelsea Green, Tiffany Stratton, Charlotte Flair, Jade Cargill, and Lash Legend. The match was a demolition derby from the opening bell, beginning with Cargill and Flair immediately brawling at ringside. Inside the ring, Legend asserted her dominance early by power bombing Stratton into a ladder and taking down Green. Despite the raw power of her opponents, it was Chelsea Green who managed to outlast the competition and achieve her dream, successfully winning the Interim WWE Women's Championship.

 

Hometown Hero: Chad Gable Captures Gold

In one of the most emotional moments of the night, Minneapolis native Chad Gable captured his first singles title in WWE by defeating Penta for the Intercontinental Championship. The bout started with a handshake before turning into a fast-paced chain wrestling clinic. Penta nearly put Gable away with a Mexican Destroyer on the ring apron, but the hometown hero kicked out at two. Ultimately, Gable trapped Penta in a grapevine ankle lock, forcing the submission victory. Penta showed immense respect post-match by personally putting the title around Gable’s waist, and Gable’s family joined him in the ring to celebrate the heartwarming moment.

 

The Very Nice, Very Evil Victory

In the highly anticipated "Human Monies on a Pole" match, Danhausen squared off against Dominik Mysterio. Both men scrambled early to climb the turnbuckle and grab the prize, but to no avail. The bout eventually settled into a traditional match, with "Dirty Dom" taking firm control over the Very Nice, Very Evil Danhausen. Despite Mysterio's sustained offense, Danhausen outsmarted his opponent to secure the victory.

 

World Heavyweight Championship Main Event

The night culminated with a deeply personal clash as Roman Reigns defended his World Heavyweight Championship against Seth Rollins. The tension was palpable; before any physicality even occurred, the champion and challenger stood in the center of the ring, talking at one another without microphones for nearly a full minute. Once the action officially began, the two traded blows in a gritty, back-and-forth contest, with neither man able to establish a definitive early advantage.
