New McKinley Park Community Grove Opens in Pittsburgh
The City of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy celebrated the grand opening of the new McKinley Park Community Grove. Located near Michigan Street on the park's historic Chicken Hill side, this new gathering space transforms a previously underutilized wooded area into a hub for recreation, education, and community connection.
Key features of the project include a 20-foot hexagonal shade pavilion, open lawn space, an outdoor learning area, improved trail connections, and enhanced accessibility. The project also preserves historic baseball backstop posts as a nod to the site's past. Funded in part by the City's Parks Tax Trust Fund and generous foundation support, the Community Grove aims to bring new life and stronger neighborhood connections to the Hilltop area.
